The Volvo XC90 is a luxurious SUV that first went on sale in 2002 and has since gone through several generations. The latest range, unveiled in 2023, offers a blend of modern design, advanced technology and high levels of comfort. The XC90 is renowned for its safety features, which are industry-leading, as well as for its eco-friendly powertrain options, including hybrid and fully electric variants. With seating for up to seven passengers, the XC90 is suitable for both families and business travellers.

Variants in the same range

The Volvo XC90 is primarily offered as an SUV. However, there are several trim levels, including the base trim, the R-Design and the Inscription models, each offering different equipment and design options. There is no saloon, convertible or estate version of the XC90, which sets it apart from other Volvo models such as the V90 or S90.

Over the years the Volvo XC90 has undergone several model changes. The most significant revision occurred in 2015, when the second generation was introduced. This brought not only a new design but also changes to the body dimensions and boot capacity. Prior to 2015 the boot space was smaller and the interior configuration less flexible. The Audi Q7 has a boot capacity of up to 1,955 litres, while the BMW X5 offers up to 1,860 litres. The Mercedes-Benz GLE also sits in a comparable range with a capacity of up to 1,850 litres. So the XC90 offers a competitive boot capacity that is not markedly different from its rivals.

More affordable alternatives

More affordable alternatives with similar boot dimensions include models such as the Skoda Kodiaq and the Peugeot 5008. The Skoda Kodiaq offers a boot capacity of up to 2,065 litres, making it an attractive option for buyers who require a lot of storage space. The Peugeot 5008 also offers a good capacity of up to 1,940 litres. These models are typically cheaper than the Volvo XC90, but offer similar cargo space.
