The VW ID.7 is the latest model in Volkswagen’s fully electric ID range. It is a hatchback built on the MEB platform and sets cutting-edge standards in both design and technology. Variants in the ID range

While the ID.3 is regarded as the more compact vehicle, the ID.4 is an SUV and the ID.5 a sportier coupe. The ID.7, by contrast, is designed as a hatchback and offers a different driving dynamic and interior space, which makes it unlikely to be confused with the other models.

Model year differences

The VW ID.7 was first introduced in 2023. Previously there were no direct predecessor models that would have influenced the body style and boot dimensions. As the ID.7 is a new model in the ID range, all dimensions and specifications are up to date and reflect current requirements for electric vehicles. Future model years could, however, bring adjustments to equipment and possibly also to the dimensions.

Direct competition

In the same price range and size, the VW ID.7 competes with models such as the Tesla Model 3 and the Hyundai Ioniq 6. The Tesla Model 3 offers a boot capacity of around 425 litres, which is significantly less than that of the ID.7. The Hyundai Ioniq 6, on the other hand, has a boot capacity of around 400 litres. These differences make the ID.7 an attractive option for buyers who value larger boot space.

More affordable alternatives

More affordable alternatives offering similar boot dimensions include the Dacia Spring and the Kia e-Niro. The Dacia Spring has a boot capacity of around 290 litres, which is considerably smaller than that of the ID.7. The Kia e-Niro, by contrast, offers a capacity of around 451 litres. While these models are cheaper to buy, they do not offer the same capacity and flexibility as the ID.7.
